Amnios
A downloadable game
You wake up swimming in a dense liquid. It is denser than water and almost amniotic. Around you, there are dozens of bodies, wrapped on themselves, in a fetal position. They are motionless. Are they alive?
Watching up, you can see silhouettes of the world outside. Far away from you. You can see up there the shape of cyclopic and bizarre buildings. Far away from you.
And you cannot breathe.
Swimmer, will you reach a Bubble on time?
Which mutant sovereign rules in the next Bubble?
Will you try to reach the Surface after losing enough of your humanity?
Or will you search for what is lurking at the Bottom of the Lake?
And remember, drowning is never the end below here, my dear Swimmer.
As long as the Lake allows you to be reborn.
What is Amnios?
Amnios is a roguelike horror TTRPG better suited for 1-2 players where you need to swim to different bubbles inside an eldritch Lake while gasping for air. Both inside and outside the game. Can you swim out of the Lake before it consumes you?
The system is based on holding the breath till the next bubble, using tables for Solo play or including a Game Master (GM). The player can improve their respiratory system by losing the human anatomy, while trying to be in harmony with an eldritch lake. Will you ever be able to swim to the surface? What is lurking at the bottom?
Amnios has different extra rules (including Solo and Multiple players) to suit every player, and it is also compatible with modern systems such as Mork Borg.
What do you need to play?
- Amnios rulebook (35+ pages)
- A single d10 (a physical one, not a simulator)
- Pencil and paper
- Character’s sheet
- A deck of poker cards
- Strong lungs!

How long are players expected to hold their breath while playing the game? Are there alternate rules for people who wouldn't be able to do so?
The game has a very tunable system, with different difficulty settings and Extra rules both for Solo play and with a GM, so it can be tuned for the player. For example, the GM is advised to use the standard averaging holding breathing time of the player to custom the difficulty, while for Solo play you can decide if challenge yourself by selecting your difficulty or using a formula based on rolling a dice. There is also an Easy mode if the dice rolling is too challenging.
